- LEFT-AND RIGHT- BRAIN DOMINANCE
v
The Left
Hemisphere is associated
with logical, analytical thought, with mathematical and linear processing of
information. Left
brain dominant second language
learners preferred a deductive style of teaching
Left-brain-dominant L2 learners are better at producing separate words, gathering the specifics
of language, carrying out sequences of operations, and dealing with
abstraction, classification, labeling, and reorganization.
v
The Right
Hemisphere
perceives and remembers visual, tactile, and auditory images. Additionally, it
is more efficient in processing in emotional information. Right-brain
dominant
learners prefer an inductive classroom atmosphere. Right-brain-dominant L2 learners appear to deal
better with whole images, with generalizations, with metaphors, and with
emotional reactions and artistic expressions.
v
Left Brain: zoom lens, rules and definitions,, logical,
systematic, planned, language, mathematics, focuses on details
v
Right Brain: Wide-angle lens, general guidelines, intuitive,
flexible, spontaneous, music, art, gets the general idea

- Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic Learners
[ Visual learners tend to prefer reading and studying charts, drawings,
and other graphic information. Visual learners also have weakness they do not
like in lecture-oriented classes and the do not something abstract.
[ Auditory learners prefer listening to lectures and audiotapes, and they
are very talkative person. Otherwise, they have difficulty to get information
by reading
[ Kinesthetic learners will show a preference for demonstrations and
physical activity involving bodily movement. They are weaker
than auditory learners in finding
information by reading.
Of course, most successful learners
utilize both visual and auditory input, but slight preferences one way or the
other may distinguish one learner from another, an important factor for
classroom instruction.
[ Strategy of different style learners
• Knowing how you process information can help you maximize your study
time using methods that fit your strengths.
- If you are visual learner, you might try
underlining or highlighting material as you read, color-coding your notes
or using flash cards to study for
test.
- If you are auditory learner can record lectures
to play back as the study or teach the material to another person.
- Kinesthetic learners might strengthen their lack
of focus by doing physical activity as they study. Try working out on a
treadmill or exercise bike while reading or listening to study
material.
