Learning and Teaching
1.
Age and Acquisition
Language
acquisition is the process
by which humans acquire the capacity to perceive and comprehend language, as
well as to produce and use words and sentences to communicate. Language
acquisition is one of the quintessential human traits, because non-humans do
not communicate by using language. Language acquisition usually refers to first-language
acquisition, which studies infants' acquisition of their native language.
This is distinguished from second-language acquisition, which deals with
the acquisition (in both children and adults) of additional languages.
2.
Language
There are
many definitions about what is language. Based on Cambridge Dictionary, language
is a system of communication consisting of sounds, words, and grammar, or the system
of communication used by people in a particular country or type of work. The
words, their pronunciation, and the methods of combining them used and
understood by a community (Merriam Webster). Richard Nordquist in
Grammar & Composition Expert define
that Language is succinctly defined in our glossary as a "human
system of communication that uses arbitrary signals, such as voice sounds,
gestures, or written symbols." But frankly, language is far too
complicated, intriguing, and mysterious to be adequately explained by a brief
definition.
3.
Learning and Teaching
Based
on Wikipedia, Learning is the act of acquiring new, or modifying and
reinforcing, existing knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, or preferences and
may involve synthesizing different types of information. UNESCO define that Teaching
is the most immediate process for supporting learning and for enabling learners
to acquire expected competencies. Therefore, learning and teaching are
interrelated and cannot be separated.
