Learner Characteristics

Learner characteristic is one of important major of language teaching. Before teaching, you should understand, comprehend, and know at least your learner characteristics. Now, we know that learner characteristics bring essential impacts in successful learning. There are some kinds of learner characteristics that affect learning such as their ethnic, linguistic, and religious value. Additionally, their native languages, levels of education, and social economic also give important impact for learners. Furthermore, learner’s life experience also has crucial effect such as what they have studied before may influence their intellectual capacities, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Moreover, we must know what the different personalities among learners are. Those are noteworthy aspect that language teachers need to consider in order to get successful learning for their students.

Linguistic Factors   

In fact, the nature of the subject matter does not have simpler questions. In linguistic factors, we do need to think about what the learners must learn. What kind of languages and how the way they communicate and implement in using language. In addition, we also need to find the best method to organize and describe the target (second language). Besides, we also need to know the real differences between learner’s first and second language. What things that will be difficulty for learners to empower. Those problems may be categorized as central to the discipline of linguistic. It is important for language teacher to understand the system and using of second language itself and the differences between first and second learners. To explain the system of that language, language teacher must have understanding about the system of language itself as their prerequisites. It includes phonemes, morphemes, words, sentences, and discourse structures.

Learning Processes

Did you know that learning process affect student in successful learning? The success of learning process can be seen from how it takes place, how the people can guarantee their success in language learning. Moreover, we need to know how the way to utilized cognitive processes in second language. The right strategies also might support learning process as well. After that, the importance of frequency of input, attention to form and meaning, memory, storage process and recall are important aspects that must be clearly understood by learner. The physical aspect and the optimal interrelationship of cognitive affective may affect the successful learning itself.
