Age and Acquisition
When we teach the learner, we should know they
are the adults or the children. It is because the teaching method for the
children and adults is different. Common observation tells us that the children
are better language learner than adults. Why be like that? It is because the
children are easier to receive the subject than adults. Accordingly, as the teacher
we should know the teaching method that is suitable with the learner, for the
teaching method absolutely affect language acquisition.
Language
Language has some different
definitions such as:
# Language is a complex, specialized skill, which develops
in the child spontaneously, without conscious effort or formal instruction.
# Ron Scollon (2004) emphasize that, first of all, language
is not something that comes in” nicely package units” and that it certainly is
a multiple, complex and kaleidoscopic phenomenon.
#the other definitions are:
1.
Language is systematic
2.
Language is a set at arbitrary symbols
3.
Language is essentially human, although possibly
not limited to humans.
We use language to express inner thoughts and emotions, to
make sense of complex and abstract thought, to learn to communicate with
others, to fulfill our wants and needs, as well as to establish rules and
maintain our culture.
Learning and teaching
The
comprehension of learning itself is acquiring or getting of knowledge of a
subject by study, experience, or instruction. Teaching is showing or helping
someone to learn how to do something, giving instruction, guiding in learning
and providing. The function of learning and teaching is a learning concept that
helps the teacher to explain the material which is going to be given to the student
directly by knowing the real situation in learning and teaching program and trying
to make the students apply what they get from it. Teaching and learning have
some elements, there are: constructivism, asking and answering, inquiry, study community,
modeling, reflection, and authentic assessment.
