GROUP 4 [Bayanul Azhari and Hafifah]

Inside and outside circle (Kagan, 1994) is a summarization technique that gets students up and moving. It provides away to gets students who normally would not talk to interact with others. After students read a section of text, the teacher divides the group. Half of the students stand up and form a circle with their backs to the inside of the circle. They are partner A. the other half of the students form a circle facing a partner from the first circle. These students are partner B. Partner A will speak first, quickly summarizing what they read. This takes about a minute. Then partner B speaks for the same length of time, adding to the summary. If the teacher stands in the center of the circle, he/she can easily monitor student responses.

HOT SEAT

·         A student is asked to sit on in front of the class
·         With the topic has been decided, the other students must deliver questions related a topic.
·         The hot seater should answer the question in quick.
·         When the whole classes finish delivering questions, the teacher asks them to review what they have discussed

TALKING CHIPS
Each person starts with three chips. Every time they speak, they give up one chip. When they have no more chips, they cannot speak again—except to ask questions—until everyone has used all their chips.
DICE TECHNIQUES
Each person starts with a dice in his hand. After he throws the dice, he explains what topic he gets. And a vice verse to another student.

SOME COOPERATIVE LEARNING TECHNIQUES

INSIDE OUTSIDE CIRCLE (USED WITH GUIDED QUESTIONS)
The Way to Use
1. Split the Class
Decide which half of the students will form the inside circle and which half will form the outside circle.
2. Question
Put a question or statement on the board.  Give students at least ten seconds to think of an answer on their own.
3. Share
Ask students in the inside circle to share their response with the classmate facing them in the outside circle. When they have done this, ask them to say "pass,” at which point their partners in the outside circle will share their responses.
4. Rotate
On your signal, have the outside circle move one step to the left or right and discuss the same question with the new partner.

HOT SEAT
A student is asked to sit on in front of the class
With the topic has been decided, the other students must deliver questions related a topic.
The hot setter should answer the question in quick.
When the whole classes finish delivering questions, the teacher asks them to review what they have discussed

Some Cooperative Learning Techniques
1.    1.   INSIDE OUTSIDE CIRCLE (USED WITH GUIDED QUESTIONS)
Inside/Outside Circles (idea by Spencer Kagan, 1994) is an activity that involves all students in the class. Inside/Outside Circles are particularly useful for: differentiation, kinesthetic learners, conversation practice, and community-building in the classroom. This activity can be a great warm up as well as a useful way to change things up and get students moving during a long class.
According to Kagan, S. (1994), inside outside circle techniques has benefits for teacher and teacher.
A. Benefit to Students:
·         Students participate at their own level
·          Can be used with students who have minimal literacy in English
·          Involves authentic communication
·          It is fun and interactive, and it gets students moving
B. Benefit to Teachers:
·         Provides assessment of speaking and listening skills
·          Can be used to practice language previously taught
·         Can be adapted for any level
2.   2.    HOT SEAT
·         A student is asked to sit on in front of the class
·         With the topic has been decided, the other students must deliver questions related a topic.
·         The hot seater should answer the question in quick.
·         When the whole classes finish delivering questions, the teacher asks them to review what they have discussed

SOME COOPERATIVE LEARNING TECHNIQUES
If we talk about cooperative learning, we must know the kinds of its techniques. Now, we will discuss about inside outside circle, hot seat, talking chips, and dice techniques. We will also discuss about the role of each techniques.
INSIDE OUTSIDE CIRCLE (USED WITH GUIDED QUESTIONS)
A half of students in the class stand up and make small circle; the teacher can name them as student 1, 2, 3, 4, etc (as inside circle). They stand up roundly and face outside.
The other ones make another circle outside the first circle; the teacher can name them as student A, B, C, D,etc (as outside circle). In other word, they stand up roundly and face inside and pair with the students, in this case student A with student 1, B with 2, C with 3, 4 with D, etc.
Two students who pair with inside and out-side students, such as student A with student 1, can start conversation. A student A who stays inside can be a student who asks questions and a student 1 who stays out- side as the respondent.
Then, the students who stays inside circle still stay and the outside students move one movement and face the new partner; now student A with student 2, student B with student 3, student C with student 4, and student D with student 1.
Do conversation again like in number 3.
HOT SEAT
